i don't like the blogger templates either. I know how the templates work and how to make them, but i don't have the artistic flare.
thats why my sister and I make a good team building websites. she does the eye candy, i do the internals. when all together, its something. well we are working on one right now anyway together. our hobby.

I actually hate these templates....I can't find one I like, I wish I could make my own :P Sadly, I am not yet that skilled!
